So on this eve before the day where we celebrate the decapitation of a large flightless fowl, let me take this moment to thank the National Retail Dry Goods Association, who, in 1939 requested to President Roosevelt that Thanksgiving be placed on this fourth Thursday in November, to that there may be an official ‘start’ to a shopping season for Christmas. Nothing like retail sales being the cornerstone of society.
(For the record, thanksgiving used to be in October, but then heck, we would have lost Columbus Day.) Ack.
Thus ends today’s cynicism.
