fire engine red

So while we were down in Southern California last week/weekend, we rented a Mustang. Yeah, I know, we aren’t really the Mustang type, but it was the same price as the subcompact car we had reserved, and it had satellite radio (more on that in a minute). Besides, neither Ben nor I had ever really been in a Mustang, so we though what the heck. Turns out it was bright red, which just screamed “GIVE ME A TICKET”, but thankfully that didn’t happen.

Anyway, in a nutshell, the Mustang was terrible. It really wasn’t suited to tall people or people who weighed over sixty pounds. There was no headroom, unless you lay the seat waaaaay back and then it was just uncomfortable. The seats were too narrow and there was absolutely no place to rest your arm. Any even though we didn’t actually try this, having someone sit in the backseat, even with the front seats squished to the dash would have been impossible.

And as for performance… I dunno. It wasn’t great either, I guess. It was really easy to redline it and you weren’t even going that fast. The turn signal made u-turns sort of tough (not as bad as the Passat in Europe, or was that just that the streets were narrower?!) and it was just sort of lumbering. While satellite radio was pretty cool (neat that you had so many channels of commercial free music – we alternated between the classical station for Ben and ‘80s pop for me [yes, that is a silly enjoyment that I have]), the tuner that was in the Mustang sucked because you couldn’t just enter a number and then hit select or enter or something, you had to scroll through every channel to get to the one that you wanted. This was kind of annoying in the one channel was channel 8 and the other was channel 80.

What I do find funny is that this picture was taken in front of part of the Waldorf School in Santa Barbara. For some reason, I see that as a disconnect, eh?
