In Starbucks, Smiling
For starters, I am not in Seattle, so I am not sitting in the cold, in the dark, feeling miserable. I've been Back East since leaving Seattle Tuesday night, dodging the storm. I've just been a slacker, and haven't updated my blog.

But the damage report for 330 Seventh Ave in Kirkland is this: the house is still standing, though there was an inch of rain, or so, in the ‘garage part' of the basement (the bedroom side was apparently fine). The fence in the back, between the house and our neighbors to the left (when facing the house) got blown down. The larch tree is still standing (miraculously), even though there are a lot of branches down. As if that thing had many branches left to lose. It's time for that guy to come down anyway.

And there is no power, day 3. And the temps have gone down to below freezing, the house is pretty cold. Ben resorted to going to the Seattle Public Library, to get some work done (gotta love wifi) and to warm up. T and J have power, so he's been spending time over there. The cats are fine, though likely somewhat confused.

Me on the other hand? I spent a few days in Boston, working, hanging out with friends. Damn, do I love that city. And now I am in Orono, sitting on my parent's couch. I got here yesterday afternoon and have managed to catch a little cold, which hopefully be over and gone by the time the rest of the family gets here next weekend. I have lots of work to catch up with (Monday may be a little rough in the work department) but this week shouldn't be bad. The week between Christmas and New Years should be very quiet too (meaning from work). I still need to finish (start?) shopping.

The cookies – I mailed about 900 of them – made it safe and sound to Maine, and would you believe only about 10 broke? That is pretty damn good, I'd say.

This is me, taken with a cell phone camera (hence the crap-quality) in Starbucks, Davis Square, on Wednesday morning.
