Most everyone knows that I have this thing for cemeteries. European and Old New England ones are my favorite. While Elizabeth was up for the weekend, we took a jaunt in the Mt Auburn Cemetery between Harvard Square and the Watertown line (on, go figure, outer Mt. Auburn St!).

I particularly like this place in the autumn, but the winter adds it’s own charm (and a lot of glare, which made photography a bit frustrating). There are so many funny stone, and really pretty ones too. I like the one’s that just say “Mother” or “Father” – though aren’t mothers and fathers also daughter and sons? There was one set that said “Mother”, “Father”, “Grandma” and “Ethel” (apparently Ethel didn’t get a title and the others had no names; grandma was interesting too – could they not afford a full grandmother stone?)

We saw this lovely cardinal too; all pretty and red in the white snow. I couldn’t get a good picture though.
