So, the national news event of the day is that the Massachusetts Supreme Court essentially said that they couldn’t find a constitutional reason why gay and lesbian couples should be allowed to marry. I think that this is great news. While I am not pro-marriage in my personal situation in life, I think that everyone should have the right to create any union they want to, and the less that government interferes with ones personal life, the better. So, more power to anyone who wants to get married, regardless of sexual orientation, the better.
Locally, I guess the news is the stormy weather. We got another dumping of large amounts of rain, follwed by some nasty wind, and they even said that it might snow tomorrow. The standing water in the streets today was incredible, and was more the recent falling of the leaves clogging the street-drains than the actual amount of rain per se. In addition to the rain here, the extreme rain up on Route 20 caused an additional rockslide, blocking an emergency access lane that had been cleared after a previous rockslide buried the road earlier this month. Last night's slide measures 15 to 20 feet high and 40 feet wide. Basically, Route 20 is really messed up; reportedly they might not even open it at all next year, given that basically an entire mountain seems to be falling down on it at that really narrow canyon section.
